The trees sebastian inSebastian Errazuriz IIcorporates into his designs are sourced from forests in South America, readapting their fallen branches while keeping the integrity of trees’ original shape (like the root system seen in his Tree Table).   Source: Functional Shelves and Tables Built From Fallen South American Trees | Colossal – Toally Epic!

Apollo’s Oven

I’ve been doing a lot of research on Apollo’s Oven and I plan on building one for the Summer.  Check out some info from an article I read as well as this Youtube video for some solid ideas.

In desert villages in Chile, 250 families are glad to let the sun roast their goat meat.  The UN Development Program paid $110.00 for the wood to build each solar oven.  Fuel is free; pollution is nil.  Womyn can spend time with kids instead of gathering wood.  Solar Cookers International estimates one to two million solar ovens are now in villages refugee camps, and sunny cities.

More are coming.  This year Jon Bohmer, a Norwegian living in Kenya, won a $75,000.00 ‘green’ prize for devising a $7.00 version of a cardboard box oven that can disinfect water and cook food.  He’s now working to distribute 10,000 equally cheap but more durable plastic ovens.

Skeptics might wonder if the sun can finish a dish.  Ask Washington D.C., pastry chef Michaela Borghese.  She’s honing her solar technique so she can do demos in the developing world.  After an hour in the HotPot, with no stirring, her polenta was creamy and delicious.  And you should taste her buttery solar linzer torte.

Here is a video on a simple box oven too that you can use outside when camping or anywhere for that matter.  Good stuff!

In other stuff news stuff…

Who likes Irish Cream? A wise person once told me (obviously after speaking to a very smart girl) that if you liked to go out to places to buy your favorite food then you might love to learn how to make it yourself at home. So here you go!
